About the serie

Territories of Freedom is a digital collage series that investigates four fundamental freedoms within societies shaped by authoritarian control: Freedom from Fear, Freedom of Speech, Freedom from Arbitrary Power, and Freedom of Conscience. Through layered compositions, fragmented media, and reconstructed symbols, the works reflect how systems of control extend beyond the external world and begin to reshape inner thought, identity, and emotional life. Each piece operates as both a visual document and a quiet act of resistance—transforming suppression into reflection. A recurring butterfly appears throughout the series as a central metaphor: the mind caught between confinement and the instinct to break free. Suspended within constrained spaces or fractured environments, it embodies both fragility and persistence—the enduring desire for liberation even under pressure.

Freedom from Fear

A man is confined within a rigid frame, symbolizing the limits imposed by the state. Though physically still, his mind is trapped by an internalized fear—shaped by constant threat and lack of safety. The frame reflects not just physical restriction, but a psychological boundary, where fear becomes a form of control. Even without visible force, he remains unable to step beyond it.

Freedom of Speech

A woman’s mouth is silenced by the hand of an unseen force, her eyes sealed to the world around her. She is rendered voiceless and blind—cut off from both expression and perception. Yet within her mind, a vision persists: a rainbow, symbolizing a future where she can speak freely. The work contrasts imposed silence with inner resilience, suggesting that even under suppression, the imagination continues to hold space for freedom.

Freedom from Arbitrary Power

A graduate figure is confined within prison-like cells, symbolizing how educated youth are forcibly detained under unjust authority. The imagery reflects a system where knowledge offers no protection, and power operates without accountability. The work speaks to the erosion of justice—where individuals are punished not for wrongdoing, but for existing within a system that suppresses potential and dissent.

Freedom of Conscience

A naked man struggles to hold his heart, symbolizing the pursuit of personal truth and moral integrity. His nudity represents independence—free from external influence—while two massive hands reach to manipulate and control him. The piece captures the tension between inner conviction and external pressure, showing how the mind and spirit fight to preserve authentic belief in the face of coercion.
