About the serie

Finding freedom in this oppressive world through the mind of Penguins as they wish for the wings that work to fly away from this torment. Penguins represent both the artist and the Myanmar people who have been stuck both mentally and physically due to the lack of freedom even both in and out of our own country merely because of being the citizen of Myanmar. After knowing that coming home journey is far in the horizon, artist start feeling depressed and lost his self in grief, regret and insecurities. Being stuck in unfamiliar place for so long, all he wish is to be free. Free from this country, feeling of regret and expectation of himself and the societies. At that time, all he want to do is fly away. This the start of the idea. PENGUINS are the most human like creature in terms of both physical and mental. Funny things is they regard the human as their own as we are also walk on the two feet like them. But their struggle for survival is tougher than us. They can’t survive in hot weather, but they withstand through the winter storm even some take their lives. They are a natural preys to the seal and orca. Even the baby penguins are food for the swallow and other flying birds around the coastal area. But if they can fly as a bird. Will they be free? Will they be free from being prey? Will they be free from winter storm? Just like PENGUIN, our people have been in this torment for a long time, no matter where you are, no matter where you have been, it still carries with you. So, I really wish myself and my people free from this burden with a might of strength like the penguin do. Even though, they don’t have wings they still surviving and thriving. As I wish for to be free so do many people in the world also wish for it. The purpose may be different but we wish the same. Through this illustration, I want the people to know you are not being alone and we all are together in this journey and we will fight till we got our freedom back.

PENGUIN IN THE FRIDGE

As Penguin are living in the cold place, I use the fridge as a metaphor to showing that I, myself is stuck in the situation. Can’t go out but still dying inside. The fridge represent the prison of my ego and the situations such as forced to flee home, lose hope due to the coup. Even if we run away from our country but the shadow is still following us even this world is not far away from them. This is how we are, a penguin in the fridge, wish to be free but still stuck in this situation both mentally and physically.

WISHING FOR FREEDOM

Same as the first one, group of penguin as a metaphor to my people and they are also stuck in same situation due to coup and more such as civil war, political and economical pressure. No place in this world is not far away from them even in or out of the country. Just like the group Penguins, we all are stuck in the fridge, which is habitable for us but barley surviving. We all are also looking for freedom and wish for a wings to fly away from getting out of this situation.

Seal and Orca, the natural predator of Penguin, they eat their flash and bones. Moreover, some seal species also rape penguin and bully them. They are using as a metaphor to tell the story of our military government and how they treat their citizen, us. Seals and orca are very infamous for playing with their food during the hunt which is also their tactic to devour the prey just like military government. After a kiss, killing follows. Wolf in sheep clothing.

Penguin are now flying but we didn’t know whether in the sky or the sea. But one thing for sure is they are moving forward and fighting back to change their destiny as we all should do. They still might not have wings yet but they still thriving. Our path may take long as long as we are together, we can get our freedom back in the future. All we have to do is keep moving.

Penguin are now flying but we didn’t know whether in the sky or the sea. But one thing for sure is they are moving forward and fighting back to change their destiny as we all should do. WISH FOR A WINGS THAT WORK

This is a name of the short animation film from 90 where one penguin is looking for many possible ways to fly as he is a bird. As we all are like penguins, we are also fighting to get our freedom back through many possible ways. The ballons, the paper crane( wings), paper plane are the metaphor of where penguin can fly by using these things. We can’t make a wish and sit back and do nothing . We must try or start to do something to get a wings or our freedom. This is penguin are starting to find solutions to fly as we are also finding solutions to fight back to junta.
