About the serie

"His Last Day On The Street is a video art piece chronicling the bravery and resilience of Myanmar’s youth, as captured by a pioneering Myanmar documentarian Pe Maung Same, affectionately known as “Ko Same” to those who loved him. The work recounts Ko Same’s final day documenting the Spring Revolution protests on March 27, 2021 — Revolutionary Day. That day, the military killed at least 114 civilians nationwide in the bloodiest crackdown since the February coup. Among those documenting the chaos and courage on the streets was 47-year-old Ko Same, standing alongside young protesters—many in their early 20s. His lens captured their determination amidst danger and his own resolve to bear witness. This project honors his bravery and deep commitment to Myanmar’s fight for democracy. Following his arrest in 2022, Ko Same was imprisoned and tragically passed away shortly after his release in 2024. Through this piece, his final act of defiance becomes a lasting tribute to all who continue the fight for freedom. "
