RAIN : A HERO & HEALER
This stained-glass-inspired artwork honors Rain, a Kachin hero who gave himself piece by piece to save others, ultimately at the cost of his own life. As the Kachin people are predominantly Christian, the design draws from the vibrant, intricate patterns of church stained glass, blending sacred imagery with the bold, colorful textiles the Kachin are renowned for. The fragmented style symbolizes Rain’s selflessness, reflecting how he dedicated every part of himself to the greater good. At the center, a stethoscope replaces the traditional Kachin swords on their flag with a surgeon’s knife, representing Rain’s choice of healing over violence. Known for their legendary skills in warfare, the Kachin warrior spirit is reimagined here as a symbol of compassion and sacrifice. The adjusted flag emblem on the stethoscope highlights Rain’s quiet bravery in choosing a different path, one of saving lives rather than taking them. Through its luminous colors and poignant symbolism, this piece celebrates Rain’s courage and humanity, turning his story into a beacon of hope and a reminder of the power of selflessness even in the darkest times.

THEY SHOOT IN HEADS : KYAL SIN / ANGEL
This piece commemorates Kyal Sin, also known as Angel, a 19-year-old from Mandalay who became a martyr and symbol of resistance during Myanmar’s 2021 anti-coup protests. Kyal Sin was killed on 3 March 2021 by a gunshot to the head as she courageously stood alongside fellow protesters demanding freedom and democracy. Her death marked a tragic milestone in the military regime’s escalating brutality, as young people like her gave their lives to confront oppression. Designed in the style of a shooting target poster, this artwork reflects the harsh reality faced by Myanmar’s protesters— peaceful citizens forced to endure the constant threat of violence from the regime. The bullet holes and stark imagery convey the fear and unwavering bravery of those who risked everything to stand against tyranny. This piece honors Kyal Sin’s sacrifice and the countless others who have faced violence in their fight for justice, turning her story into a lasting symbol of hope, resilience, and the enduring spirit of Myanmar’s youth.
SHWE GUEVARA
Shwe Guevara reimagines Che Guevara’s iconic image through the lens of Burmese identity, blending global revolutionary symbolism with local cultural resonance. In Burmese, Shwe means “gold,” representing purity, value, and resilience, making it a fitting counterpart to Che’s legacy of defiance and hope. By incorporating traditional Burmese motifs and golden hues, the design connects Che’s global iconography to Myanmar’s struggles for justice and freedom. Drawing inspiration from the Cuban Revolution’s use of bold, minimalist poster art to unify diverse groups and inspire action, this piece adapts Che’s stylized image—immortalized by Alberto Korda and Jim Fitzpatrick—to speak directly to Burmese audiences. The golden tones evoke Myanmar’s cultural heritage while symbolizing a shared vision of justice, equality, and resistance to oppression. Shwe Guevara serves as a bridge between international revolutionary movements and Myanmar’s fight for democracy, transforming Che’s image into a localized emblem of solidarity and hope.

WATERMELON HEROES
This artwork pays tribute to the “Watermelon Soldiers” of Myanmar’s military—individuals who outwardly wear the green uniform of the regime but secretly harbor the red revolutionary spirit of the people. These silent heroes risk everything to aid the resistance, providing crucial information and support to those fighting for freedom and democracy. Their duality, symbolized by the green rind and red core of a watermelon, represents the hidden revolution within the ranks of oppression. Drawing inspiration from the iconic anti-Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket, the design combines bold imagery and satirical undertones to convey the tension and bravery of these unlikely revolutionaries. By framing these soldiers as “Watermelon Heroes,” the artwork reclaims their identity from one of camouflage to one of quiet defiance, transforming their hidden acts into a bold statement of courage and hope. It is a visual reminder that even within systems of oppression, the seeds of resistance can thrive.
